To play Texas holdem one should know what to play and what not to play, when to bet and when not to bet, when to raise and when to check. All these decisions will have to be made by those that play Texas holdem.
  • When AA or KK is the staring hand one can play Texas holdem by raising and re-raising form all positions. For KK re-raises can be called sometimes, but they should be folded in cases if a tight player seems to bet very aggressively.
  • QQ, JJ, AK can be raised form all positions, a re-raise should be done with a second thought.  They should be folded in cases where they seem to be traps.
  • TT, AQ, AJ, KQ, AK can be raised form all positions; if there are raises and re-raises these hands should be folded.
  • 99, KT, QJ, KJ, AT, AQ can be raised in the late positions; if there are raises and re-raises these hands should be folded.
  • A8, KQ, 88, QT, A9, AT, AJ, JT raise should be done in a small size, if there are raises and re-raises these hands should be folded.
  • 77, Q9, KJ, QJ, JT, A7, A6, A5, A4, A3, A2, J9, T9, K9, KT, QT if there are raises these hands should be folded.
  • 66, J8, 98, T8, 55, J9, 43, 75, T9, 33, 98, 64, 22, K8, K7, K6, K5, K4, K3, K2, Q8, 44, 87, 97 should be decided on a fold or a play based on how the flop turns out to be.

These indications can be useful guides to play Texas holdem online.   These are just like mathematical tables that can help a player decide on the playing decision.  For those that do not know when to raise and when not to raise such a generalized approach would be fair.

As you play Texas holdem you are advised to fold to raises and re-raises because players that re-raise are normally doing it with a reason and with some pockets it might be difficult to compete against other hands.  For example AA cannot be competed by KT.  So if someone is holding a KT and if there is a raise, it is better to fold, because, KT has many better possibilities like AA, JJ, AK, AA or KK; however, all of such comparative decision comes with practice and experience.
